Precautions for using high-frequency radar level gauges
1. When measuring liquid materials with a high-frequency radar level gauge, the axis of the sensor and the surface of the medium must remain perpendicular; when measuring solid materials, due to the angle of repose of the solid medium, the sensor needs to be tilted at a certain angle.
2. Avoid any devices that may cause false reflections within the emission angle. Especially avoid obstacles within the near 1/3 conical emission zone of the antenna (because the closer the obstacle, the stronger the false reflection signal). If this is unavoidable, it is recommended to use a refraction plate to deflect the strong false reflection signal. This can reduce the energy density of false echoes, making it easier for the sensor to filter out false signals.
3. Avoid the inlet to prevent false reflections.
4. The sensor should not be installed in the center of an arched tank (otherwise the false echoes received by the sensor will be enhanced), nor should it be installed very close to the tank wall. The installation position should be at 1/2 of the container radius.
5. Avoid installing the high-frequency radar level gauge in areas with strong eddy currents. For example, due to stirring or strong chemical reactions, it is recommended to use a waveguide or bypass pipe for measurement.
6. If the sensor is installed on a connecting pipe, the antenna must extend from the connecting pipe. The horn antenna should extend at least 10mm from the connecting pipe. The rod antenna connecting pipe length is greater than 100 or 250mm. The connecting pipe diameter is less than 250mm. The diameter of the connecting pipe can be increased to reduce the interference echoes caused by the connecting pipe.
7. Regarding waveguide antennas: The inner wall of the waveguide must be smooth, and the open waveguide at the bottom must reach the required low level to allow measurement in the pipe. The sensor type plate must be aligned with the axis of the waveguide opening. If the dielectric constant of the measured medium is less than 4, a reflector must be installed at the end of the waveguide, or the end of the waveguide must be bent to deflect the reflected echo from the bottom of the container.
